- ILS House applications are January 1, 2026.
- Crossroads Community (International Center) applications are due January 1, 2026
- Swedish House applications are due January 1, 2026
- Off-campus housing applications are due January 1, 2026.
- Any student who does not meet a qualifier for release is requesting to be added to the wait list. The wait list for off-campus housing will only be activated if all on-campus housing is filled - plan on being a campus resident. You must also still complete the Housing Agreement and room selection processes via the . Failure to participate in room selection process means that housing will be assigned to you. Note: signing a lease is NOT a qualifier for off-campus housing. If you are not approved for off-campus release, you will be assigned a room assignment and be responsible for the cost of residential housing/meal plan requirements.
Submit your Housing Agreement
Housing Agreement (Returning student housing form) opens Sunday, February 15, 2026 at 12 p.m./noon
Priority for time slots is assigned based on class year (year in residence) and then by application received timestamp; averaged between your roommate pair/group).
Taking additional credits or graduating early does not impact your time slot - is based on years of residence in campus housing.

The next question is crucial! Which type of housing (room type) will you be applying for:
- Single room;
- Two-person room (Doubles);
- Two-person room (Doubles) - Open Gender;
- Three-person room (Triple);
- Three-person room (Triple) - Open Gender;
- Four-person room (Apt, Suite, Quads); or
- Assign my space for me.
How you answer this question will determine your Room Selection type and ability to roommate match. For Doubles and Triples, the 'open gender' option allows for roommate matching regardless of assigned gender, and housing placements in designated areas of Uhler (based on demand/availability). All four-person units are open gender roommate matching except for Uhler Quads.
Note: You must be able to fill a space with your mutually-matched roommate group to be able to select, even if you have a time slot; so a matched pair cannot select a triple, three people cannot select a quad, etc.
If you choose to have your space assigned for you, you will receive a room assignment and roommate match over the summer (matched based on your age, class year, and roommate profile). You would also select this option if you will be Study Away for Fall.
Assemble group and roommate matching
After submitting a room-type application in your Housing Portal, you will need to submit a Room-Type Application to join that match group so you can roommate match with other students who submitted for that same room type. Then visit the Roommate Matching section to search for and match with roommate(s). If you have applied for a Single room, you can skip this step.
Roommate matching deadline: March 1, 2026
After submitting a room-type application in your Housing Portal, you will need to submit a Room-Type Application to join that match group so you can roommate match with other students who submitted for that same room type. Then visit the Roommate Matching section to search for and match with roommate(s). If you have applied for a Single room, you can skip this step.
To search for a specific person, we recommend searching by Â鶹ÊÓƵ email address.
- You will only be able to search for roommates who have submitted for the same housing type. So if you submitted for a Double but your roommate submitted for an Open-Gender Double, you will not be able to find each other to mutually match.
- All roommate groups/pairs must be finalized in advance of the room selection, if you do not have a fully-matched roommate group that matches the housing type you are requesting (if you only have 2 mutually matched roommates, you will not be able to select a three- or four-person unit, and will forfeit your assigned time slot).
Make your plan!
- Review all the housing options for your roommate groups (four, three, or two-person units). Be realistic in your planning -- four-person apartments will be selected by four rising Seniors, those who will be Sophomores and Juniors next year should research your options for single, double, or triple rooms.
Pick your housing for next year
Receive your room selection time slot/Room Selection (24 hours in advance of selection date, by room-type)
See full timeline for opening dates for each housing type (as well as notification dates for special housing applicants).
If you do not select an assignment during the Room Selection process, one will be assigned to you over the summer.
- Time slots are assigned based on class year (year in residence) and then by application received timestamp; averaged between your roommate pair/group).
- Your roommate group/pairing will be assigned a time slot (posted to the ) at least one day before the room selection for the type of housing that you applied to select.
- At your allotted date and time, you (or any one of your paired roommates/roommate group) can select and confirm a housing selection for your group.
- Every 2 minutes, the next time slot will open.
- You must fill the entire room/apartment with a fully mutually-matched roommate group at this time.
- Groups that do not meet the required group size will not be able to select spaces they cannot fully fill
- For example, three matched roommates cannot select a four-person unit.
Studying abroad, student teaching or internship away from campus
Learn more about how to manage your housing if you will be away from campus for a semester.
Away Fall Semester
- Those who will be away for the upcoming Fall semester should not roommate match or select a room during Room Selection (or you will be charged for that housing!).
- Instead, students who are away from campus for Fall will be manually placed in housing for the upcoming Spring at the end of the Fall semester.
- Residential Life works with each student on a housing placement from anticipated openings.
- Those requesting to be released from campus for Student Teaching or an off-campus internship in the Fall should apply/notify via the Off Campus Housing Application (requests will be verified with the appropriate departments).
- If you have questions about study away, student teaching, or internships and housing, please contact Residential Life at reslife [at] gustavus.edu (reslife[at]gustavus[dot]edu)
Away Spring Semester
- Students who anticipate being from campus Spring should proceed with Room Selection for the upcoming Fall, and notify their roommate(s) that will be an open space for Spring that Residential Life will work with the remaining resident(s) to fill.
- Spring Study Away students check out of housing at the end of the Fall semester and are not billed for Â鶹ÊÓƵ housing for Spring.
- Those who will be studying abroad or on off-campus college programs in the Spring of the following academic year (including student teaching or having an internship away from St.Peter) must participate in room selection for the Fall that they will be on campus.Â
Those students who meet a qualifier to live off-campus upon their return to Â鶹ÊÓƵ must participate in the off-campus application process.
International student or transfer roommates?
Students who are interested in living with international or transfer students who are new to the campus for fall semester should tell Residential Life.
Students who are interested in living with international or transfer students who are new to the campus for fall semester should indicate their interest to Residential Life.
Placements are made manually over the summer as new student arrivals are confirmed (August).
Process for getting a roommate who is an international student or transfer student
- Select the 'Assign my Space for me' option when completing your housing agreement.
- Submit a wait-list request to rank your building preferences.
Current Transfer students
Room Selection time slots are assigned based on Class Year as Year in Residence in campus housing. For returning Transfer students - we will look at your class year at the time you transferred in to Â鶹ÊÓƵ to adjust your campus class year accordingly. Students who transfer to Â鶹ÊÓƵ for the second semester of their first year will be considered rising Sophomores for the purposes of room selection class year.
