Making the Game

Transform your passion for sports into a meaningful career with the sport management major or minor at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ. Designed to explore the complexities and functions of professional, international, collegiate, youth, and community sports. The multidisciplinary and holistic approach at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ incorporates critical considerations of ethics, diversity, equity, and inclusion in sports, ensuring a well-rounded understanding of the field. You will also develop applied skills in facilities and event management, sports writing, economics of sport, and more. You'll take courses from a variety of academic departments, including communication studies, business and economics, and health and exercise science.

Opportunities in Sport Management

Beyond the classroom there are numerous ways to enhance their education and professional skills to prepare you for a career in the dynamic world of sports. You are supported to create an immersive learning experience tailored to your interests and career goals.

 

Internships — Many students choose to gain an in-depth work experience and build their professional network through an internship either on or off campus. Your faculty and the staff in the Career Development Center will assist you.

Student Employment — With the wide array of varsity and club sports on campus, you have opportunities for professional sport management experience working in the Office of Sports Information and the Office of Athletic Event Management.

Research — Collaboration with a faculty member on a research project offers a valuable chance to explore a specific area of interest, providing opportunities to acquire practical skills like analysis and information synthesis.

Study Away — Living and learning in another country expands your understanding of sport from an international perspective. You also will gain experience in cross-cultural communication and gain insights into global trends and challenges in the sports industry. Faculty and the staff of the Center for International and Cultural Education will help you determine the best location.
