Keyboard Studies

Â鶹ÊÓƵ Â鶹ÊÓƵ, College Keyboard program, offers opportunities for students to study piano and/or organ to music majors and non-majors in various skill levels. 

The ultimate goal of Â鶹ÊÓƵ Keyboard Studies is not only for students to learn how to play the piano or organ but to experience the deep connection between music and the composer's musical style and historical background, and to cultivate an ear for listening to music.

Weekly lessons are available for anyone who wants to learn to play the piano or organ. Alongside the lessons, many students take courses in music theory and the history of Western music and attend various music concerts held on campus. There are opportunities to perform at concerts such as studio seminars, solo recitals, and on-campus events.

Piano Studies

Students interested in piano can pursue individual lessons with Dr. Yumiko Oshima-Ryan and Dr. Esther Wang.

  •  Weekly Private Lessons (Audition required): These lessons are for students who have taken lessons more than five years. Lessons focus on developing technical skills in piano performance requisite for artistic self-expression and cultivate skills to discuss musical, technical, historical, and theoretical features of selected works for piano both in lessons and studio classes.
  • Weekly Group Lessons /Private Lessons (Beginners and No audition required).


 

Organ Studies

Organ studies at Â鶹ÊÓƵ allow students to explore the rich tradition of organ music and develop proficiency on this unique instrument. Organ lessons provide students with the opportunity to learn about organ technique, expand their repertoire, and further their understanding of the complex workings of the organ. 


 

Ensemble Accompaniment

Piano and organ students may also have the opportunity to accompany vocal or instrumental ensembles or individual soloists at Â鶹ÊÓƵ. This provides valuable collaborative experiences and allows students to develop their accompanying skills while supporting other musicians in their performances.
