How to Apply

Items needed to complete the application:

  1. ($50 processing fee paid within the Common App; the fee cannot be waived, transferred, or refunded)
  2. Transcript(s)
  3. TOEFL/IETLS/Duolingo/Cambridge English, only if you are not fluent in English, or if it has not been the medium of instruction in your school.
  4. ISFAA form
  5. SAT/ACT (optional)
  6. Certified financial documents, which are bank statements of parents or educational sponsor.

English Proficiency Requirements

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ policy requires international students to prove a minimum level of English proficiency for college-level studies.

 

Native English speakers from the following countries are exempted from this requirement: English-speaking Africa, Canada, Ireland, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and Commonwealth Caribbean Countries.

  • TOEFL iBT: Total score of 85 or higher
  • IELTS: Total score of 6.5 or higher
  • : Score of 110 or higher
  • Minnesota English Language Program (MELP): Successful completion of all required Level 4: High-Advanced ESL classes.

Your Path to Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ

Applying to Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ as an international student is simple—and we’ll guide you through every step. From submitting your transcripts to optional items like test scores and recommendations, our checklist helps you stay on track. Once your application is complete, you’ll receive your admission decision and scholarship details—often within two weeks. You can manage your application and materials through your personalized Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Applicant Portal.

Financial Aid

Upon successful completion of the application, international students are automatically reviewed for the Count Folke Bernadotte Scholarship. This scholarship is assigned based on a number of factors, including academic success, extracurricular involvement, and demonstration of financial need. The scholarship typically ranges from $20,000-$40,000 per year. You must prove the ability to pay a minimum of $32,800 per year in order to be considered for admission. We will also evaluate you for on-campus employment as part of the financial aid process.

  • Both DACA and U.S. citizens abroad are not considered international students and should complete the domestic application for admission.
  • Applicants who do not hold a United States Passport or have United States Permanent Residence status, are recognized as International Students.jreese2 [at] gustavus.edu ( Joy Reese) works with all international students as well as United States passport holders who live outside of the U.S. Upon arrival to Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ, students can look forward to working with the Assistant Director of International Student and Scholar Services, jeffa [at] gustavus.edu (Jeff Anderson).
  • Admitted international students may defer their application one time for up to one year.

International transfer students need all of the materials listed above, as well as university transcript(s).

If you are an international student who has made the commitment to attend Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ by sending in your deposit, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ requires you to request official transcript(s) from all post-secondary institutions attended. For documents not in English, please include the English translation.

Students who would like their international post-secondary credits considered for transfer to Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ must provide a Professional Credential Evaluation from , , or any accredited organization. We require a course-by-course evaluation to show your complete course listing with credit values and grades received for each course.

The deadlines listed below are for both first year and transfer applications:
November 15 - 2026 Spring Entry Term: Completed applications due.
