I joined the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures at 鶹Ƶ in 2010. I teach Spanish language, Latin American culture andھ, Latin American and U.S. Latin@ literature in Spanish. I am a specialist in Mexico / U.S. Intercultural Studies. I am particularly interested in Latin@/Latin American pop culture through the lens of Perfomance Theory. I recently completed a creative non-fiction project written in Spanglish, entitled "Gringos mexicanos," which broadens the dialogue on Mexican American identity. I am a community engaged scholar committed to . In 2016 I was honored to receive the for advancing the culture and practice of community engagement on campus. As a Faculty Engaged Fellow in 2011 I developed a community-based learning model with members of the Latin@ community of St. Peter and the 鶹Ƶ Spanish program Language Buddies, concerned with fostering transcultural competence in St. Peter.

Education

I obtained my B.A. / Licenciatura in Communication Studies from Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores (I.T.E.S.O.) (2000) with a Senior Thesis entitled: "Siete críticas a la Cenicienta / Seven Critiques of the Cinderella Folk Tale". M.A. (2005) and Ph.D. (2010) in 20th Century Latin American Literature from the University of Iowa, with a dissertation entitled: "Performing Nation in the Twenty First Century: Female Bodies and Voices of Greater Mexico."
