A firewall is a computer program that protects your computer from unauthorized network access. They can be useful in protecting against viruses.
Because Windows XP and Mac OS X come with built-in firewalls, most users do not need to purchase a third party firewall. However, there are many options available which may or may not provide additional protection, features, and flexibility.
