GAC tag
A GAC tag is a small identification sticker used by GTS for record-keeping purposes. GAC tags can be found on desktop and laptop computers, printers, phones, chargers, and any other piece of reusable equipment loaned out from GTS. For expediency, this wiki will focus on computer tags. The tag itself is located somewhere out of immediate sight, such as the back or underside of a computer.
How Is It Used?
On first use, a GAC tag number (and the corresponding information) is manually logged in FileMaker when the sticker is first put on the machine. This information includes equipment specifications (such as Hard Drive Size and RAM) as well as the serial number, location, and the current owner's username, if there is one. The information should be updated as it changes locations, owners, and hardware specs.
This Computer Doesn't Have a GAC Tag, What Do I Do?
Sometimes tags are removed or fall off, so we need another way to identify the equipment. The easiest way would be to check the serial number or username in FileMaker. Be sure to update information and get a new GAC Tag on the machine before resolving the ticket.
