Active Desktop
Active Desktop is a feature built into the Microsoft Windows operating system since Windows 95 that allows users to display interactive content, such as web pages, as their desktop wallpaper.
Labs and kiosks
Starting in Fall 2006, Active Desktop was configured on all Windows XP machines in computer labs and kiosks at 鶹Ƶ to display helpful links and information about events and news.

Configuring
Windows users can use the lab Active Desktop on their office or personal machines.
- Right-click on the desktop and select Properties.
- Click the Desktop Tab.
- Click the Customize button.
- Click the Web Tab
- Click New
- Enter http://www.gustavus.edu/labs in the location field, click OK.
- With the http://www.gustavus.edu/labs selected, click the Properties button and select the Schedule tab.
- Set the Sychronization time to a time that makes sense for your computer usage - Select My Scheduled Update, select the Schedule tab and pick a time.
- To make the active desktop fill the whole screen - hover your mouse over the upper right had corner of the image - a menu will appear allowing you to select a layout for the desktop.
