POP3 is a method of checking e-mail.

When using POP3 to check e-mail, an e-mail client connects to the POP3 server and downloads e-mail messages to your local machine. In most cases, the client will then delete the messages from the server.

POP3 verses IMAP

Because POP3 downloads and deletes message from the server, it is usually used when checking e-mail at only one computer. IMAP, on the other hand, is more frequently used when checking e-mail from multiple computers because it leaves e-mail messages securely on the server.

People with 鶹Ƶ accounts are strongly encouraged to use IMAP over POP3.
