IPv6 was designed to overcome the limited address ranges in IPv4.

Disabling IPv6 on Windows

If you wish to disable IPv6 on windows -

  • From the Start Menu - Select Control Panels - Network and Sharing Center (view by icon, not category)
  • On the left side click Change Adapter Settings - Right Click on the connection you wish to disable it on - select Properties.
  • Uncheck the box labeled Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)
  • Click OK
