The HP Laserjet 4000 was the old model of the printers in the residence halls. In the summer of 2006, they were replaced with the HP Laserjet 4250

Configuring your computer

Windows NT/2000/XP

Open the Printers Control Panel: Start > Settings > Printers and double-click on "Add Printer." This will launch the Add Printer Wizard.

When asked how the printer is attached to your computer, check the box next to "Local printer," but uncheck "Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer."

You will see a window like the figure below, asking you to select a printer port.

Check "Create a new port" and select Standard TCP/IP Port in the Type field.

Click "Next" to launch the Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard. This wizard will ask either for the Printer Name or the IP Address and Port Name.

Duplexing

To print on both sides of paper you must enable duplexing by following the instructions below.

  1. Open the Printers Control Panel: Start Menu > Settings > Printers.
  2. Right-click on your printer and select Properties.
  3. On the Device Settings tab look at Installable Options and select "Installed for the Duplex Unit" setting.
  4. Click Apply.

  5. On the General Tab, click Printing Preferences.
  6. Select Flip on Long Edge.
  7. Click Apply.
