Internet Protocol Version 6
IPv6 was designed to overcome the limited address ranges in IPv4.
Disabling IPv6 on Windows
If you wish to disable IPv6 on windows -
- From the Start Menu - Select Control Panels - Network and Sharing Center (view by icon, not category)
- On the left side click Change Adapter Settings - Right Click on the connection you wish to disable it on - select Properties.
- Uncheck the box labeled Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)
- Click OK
Disabling IPv6 on Mac OS X
If you wish to disable IPv6 on the Macintosh operating system:
- Go to the Apple Menu and select System Preferences
- Click on Network
- Unlock the Network System Preference if it is locked. This can be done by clicking the lock icon in the lower left of the window
- Click on the network connection you are using to connect to the internet. This is typically labeled Ethernet or Airport
- Click on the Advanced button on the right side of the window
- Click the TCP/IP tab at the top of the window if it is not already selected
- Under the Configure IPv6 option select Off
- Click OK
- Click Apply and close the System Preferences
