Symantec Endpoint Protection is the latest version of Symantec's AntiVirus Corporate Edition. ΒιΆΉΚΣΖ΅ began implementing this software in Spring 2008 and it became standard on PC images for Fall 2008. This software is available to ΒιΆΉΚΣΖ΅ students and faculty on the . Before installing Symantec, please be sure to verify that all other anti-virus software is completely removed from your system, Endpoint Protection will not function properly if other anti-virus software is present.
A student may opt out of having Symantec if they download the ΒιΆΉΚΣΖ΅ Anti-Virus Checker and have a paid subscription to another anti-virus program such as Norton, McAfee, or Kaspersky.

Weekly scans
By default, Symantec Endpoint Protection will scan your hard drive every week to eliminate any viruses that may not have been caught by the Proactive Threat Protection built into the program. This feature can not be disabled on the ΒιΆΉΚΣΖ΅ Network, but the scan can be stopped. Stopping the virus scan every week is not recommended and may lead to further problems in the future.
Institutional users who would like to adjust their scanning times, frequency or other features, can run the .
Update virus definitions
Normally, Endpoint Protection will automatically download and install its own virus definitions when new ones are available. If you would like to manually download new definitions read on.
To update virus definitions in Endpoint Protection simply open the program by clicking the yellow shield in the taskbar (by the clock). Then click LiveUpdate on the left of the window shown below.

- Click Start >> Run
- Enter regedit
- Click OK
- Locate the following registry key
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
- On the right pane, locate any items that start with f:\. Change these registry keys to point to valid folder locations.
- Run Installer again.

- Run removePending.reg on your computer by double clicking on the file.
- Hit yes if you get a prompt
- Run the GACAntivirus installer again
Manual edit
- Click Start >> Run

- Locate the following registry key and rename it to PendingFileRenameOperations2
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\PendingFileRenameOperations
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet001\Control\SessionManager\PendingFileRenameOperations
- Run the installer again
