IMAP stands for Internet Message Access Protocol. It is a method of accessing electronic mail or bulletin board messages that are kept on a (possibly shared) mail server. IMAP is a method of checking e-mail.
This is the preferred set-up that we ask 鶹Ƶ students to use for checking their e-mail. This flexible set-up enables people to check their e-mail anywhere.
