Web Browser Maintenance

A web browser is a piece of software that gives users the ability to access websites and web pages. These pages contain text, images and other information. This information is made available on the Internet. Web browsers work by fetching web pages from a web server using HTTP.

Popular browsers include:

• Microsoft Internet Explorer
• Microsoft Edge
• Google Chrome
• Mozilla Firefox
• Apple's Safari

Verifying that your browser is updated and doesn't have any malicious extensions or plug-ins is important for browser security.

Google Chrome

Manual Check for Updates

Click the Chrome Menu (three dots) on the browser toolbar.

Select Help , then About Google Chrome.

In the confirmation dialog that appears, follow the prompts to update and relaunch Google Chrome, if necessary.

Check Browser Version

Click the Chrome Menu (three dots) on the browser toolbar Help then About Google Chrome.

Check Google Chrome Extensions

To check your Google Chrome Extensions, from the Chrome Menu (three dots) on the browser toolbar, select More Tools then Extensions. You can add, remove or turn off or on Extensions at this window. If you have questions or concerns about installed Extensions, or didn't intentionally install them, please contact the Technology Helpline.

FireFox

Current or Updated Version

Windows without menus showing - From the FireFox menu - select Help - About FireFox.

Windows with Menus Showing - From the Help Menu select About FireFox.

Macintosh - From the FireFox menu - select About Firefox.

BrowserExtensions

From the FireFox Menu, select Add-ons.

In the Add-on Manager window select Extensions.
