Congratulations from Technology Services! Graduation is on the horizon and soon you will be moving on to new adventures – graduate school, a recently landed job, traveling, or just taking some time off to smell the roses. Along with making sure you get the okay from the registrar announcing that you will indeed be receiving your diploma, it is time to think about technology after 鶹Ƶ. If you have been using your e-mail account or Home Directory to save pictures, messages from friends, important papers from classes, then it is time to think about moving your e-mails and data to a new location. You will have one year of access to your account to check your 鶹Ƶ e-mail and your Home Directory. That first year out of college goes by fast! The sooner you shift to new services, the easier your life will be! Good luck to you all!

E-mail
Your E-mail account and home directory will remain active for one year after graduation.  After that year, you will need to decide if you want to continue using the 鶹Ƶ e-mail account or  or forward your 鶹Ƶ e-mail to a different address.  Recent graduates (2005 and later) have been offered a program that extends the use of their email accounts for an annual fee.  For $25 per year, accounts will remain active.  Please see Alumni E-mail Options for details.
+
* Please visit the [/account/contact 鶹Ƶ User Settings page] and modify/enter your alternate e-mail address.  This will help you reset your 鶹Ƶ password if you forget it.

* If you decide to keep using your 鶹Ƶ e-mail after graduation, please make sure you keep the account under quota and in good order.  You can forward your 鶹Ƶ email to another account at any time, by visiting the GTS Tools pages.

* If you decide to switch to a new e-mail after graduation, make sure you forward your 鶹Ƶ e-mail to your new e-mail address and let people know of your new address. People will still be able to send you email at your 鶹Ƶ address, when you have your email forwarded. If you haven't set up a forward, after one year, when people e-mail your 鶹Ƶ account, it will be returned to them as undeliverable.

Copy your files from your Home Directory (Z: Drive) to a USB flash drive, external hard drive, your personal Google account, or to your personal computer before you leave campus. If you use Nebula or Locker, you most likely have files on your home directory. If you routinely use a lab computer to work on files, you may have files located on your home directory in the desktop or documents folders when connected to the lab computer or Virtual Lab.

* Make sure to include your website. If you have a personal website you would like to keep, it is located in the www-docs folder.
+
Academic Resources
* All lab computers have CD-writers and USB ports. If you use a USB flash drive to store your files, lab computers have USB ports on the fronts and/or backs of the machines.
+
Purchase software packages and computers at academic pricing while you are still eligible. Once you graduate, you will spend more money for the same products.
* If you need help making a CD of your files, you can stop by the Technology Helpline or the Technology Services main office for help.
+
Microsoft Office
* 2005 and 2006 graduates can download a zipped copy of their home directory and email inbox by visiting the GTS Tools Page.
+
If you have downloaded the free Office 365 offered through 鶹Ƶ, your subscription will end after graduation. You will need to download or move your 鶹Ƶ Office 365 online documents to your computer or to a personalGoogle Drive.

Anti-virus
+
If you still plan to use Microsoft Office we recommend that you uninstall Office 365 and purchase a personal subscription to Office 365. It is available at many retail stores, or you can buy it online.
Purchase a new anti-virus program. You have many choices, but a few of the big name products are McAfee, Symantec, and Norton.

* Make sure you know how to uninstall the Symantec AntiVirus from 鶹Ƶ, and then install the one you purchased.
+
If you experience problems with installing or updating a copy of Microsoft Office, you will need to completely uninstall the copy of Office 365 you downloaded while at 鶹Ƶ. To do so, follow these instructions.

Other Academic Software and Resources
If you are using a Windows-based computer, make sure you have your computer downloading and installing Windows Updates automatically. This will also help prevent viruses from exploiting your computer. If you installed our Symantec Antivirus during 2006-2007, you will continue to get Windows Updates from 鶹Ƶ, even after you leave campus. If you wish to receive Windows Updates from Microsoft instead of connecting to the 鶹Ƶ Windows update server, a patch will soon be available for download.
