MAYDAY! Peace Conference

Community Food Security

MAYDAY! Peace Conference

27th MAYDAY! Peace Conference
Wednesday, May 2, 2007

The conference is devoted each year to a different topic relating to human rights and social justice; the theme for 2007 was Community Food Security.

The daylong conference will featured presentations from , Ph.D., C.S. Mott Chair of Sustainable Agriculture at Michigan State University, who researches community-based food systems and community food security, and author Janet Poppendieck, Ph.D., who wrote Sweet Charity: Emergency Food and the End of Entitlements, a book challenging the so-called food emergency system.

A unique feature to the 2007 conference was a "Locavore Lunch." The College Dining Service turned into a "local foods zone," serving only foods that have been grown in the region.
