On Wednesday, April 19, 2006, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ hosted its 26th annual MAYDAY! Peace Conference on the college campus. The conference is devoted each year to a different topic relating to human rights and social justice; the theme for 2006 was "AIDS in Africa: The Unfolding Crisis."

The daylong conference featured presentations from eminent scientist Dr. Robert Gallo, director of the Institute of Human Virology at the , Baltimore, who is credited with identifying HIV as the infectious agent responsible for AIDS, and professor Marjorie Mbilinyi, a social activist from the , Tanzania, who writes and speaks on women's concerns, education, AIDS, and politics.

An afternoon forum also took place, with presenters from the , a in Swaziland, South Africa, and the Office of Senator Mark Dayton.
