Come join us for a talk by Dr.Jon Gill, "Underground Rap as Religion: An Aesthetic Process Philosophy"!
Dr. Gill holds an M.Th. from the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago and a Ph.D. in Philosophy from Claremont Graduate University. He is currently Visiting Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Â鶹ÊÓƵ. Â
Dr. Gill's interests range widely across issues in philosophy of race, philosophy of religion, and aesthetics, but he is especially interested in how hip-hop culture works to build identities that transcend hierarchical racial categorizations. In this talk, he draws on the process thought of A.N. Whitehead in arguing the inventiveness, critical creativity, and meaning-constructing practices of underground rap makes it a space of secular religion.
