Keynote Speaker: Dr. Ashanti Johnson

Dr. Ashanti Johnson is one of the first African American female chemical oceanographers in the US, an international STEM expert, a highly accredited speaker, and author, profiled in Wikipedia.
Dr. Johnson has been featured in television broadcasts, podcasts and on National Public Radio, as a result of her professional activities and contributions to our global society.
Since receiving her Ph.D. in Oceanography from Texas A&M University in 1999, Dr. Johnson has engaged in scientific research, as well as educating, mentoring and professional development of students and early career professionals.
Her areas of expertise include STEM diversity and inclusion; women in STEM; faculty recruitment and diversity; as well as workplace and career empowerment; aquatic and environmental sciences; student academic and career readiness strategies; faculty and staff professional development; institutional change; organizational leadership and advancement convocations.
Among Dr. Johnson’s various honors and awards. it includes a 2010 U.S. Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Mentoring from President Obama.
