Nepenthaceae (Pitcher Plant Family)
This is a carnivorous plant that contains rainwater collected in pitcher-like leaves. The leaves are often shiny and secret compounds that attract insects which drown in the pool of water. The lower part of the trap contains glands which absorb nutrients from captured prey. This particular species is native to Southeast Asia, but they aren’t as exotic as this sounds and are found worldwide including boggy area of Northern Minnesota.
