SharePoint is another of Microsoft's products that we both work with for client projects but also use in our everyday office environment. SharePoint is all about collaboration both an a team level within an organization and in breaking down boundaries that exist when working with clients on client projects.
On every client project we start by setting up a client microsite in SharePoint. This becomes the main repository for documents, quotes, timesheets, links to development work etc. We build UML views using Microsoft Visio and save these in the client SharePoint site. We develop a project plan with Microsoft Project and again save this in SharePoint. We then add extra web parts to the site. These could be links to Exchange emails, to items in the Gold Vision CRM, to web site technical support job ticketing systems and to the management area of our own Notification system used to notify our staff and clients on site usage, low disk space and server health etc. We then give the client access to their own SharePoint site giving them free access to monitor work being carried out at any time in the project.
