AMT Data Technologies use Exchange as our own email server in our office. This acts as an external mail server as well as pulling emails off several backup servers to ensure our email system is always 100% reliable. The beauty of using Exchange is that email can be viewed through a variety of devices and applications.

We use Outlook on our desktops linked to Exchange. We work from home using Outlook over our VPN. We also use Outlook Web, the browser based version of outlook, to view emails when in other locations. We routinely collect emails on our mobile phones or PDA's when out of the office. Another large benefit of Exchange is that our CRM solutions such as Gold Vision have built in Exchange tracking so we can use our CRM system to see emails associated with a client project, whether it has been sent to or from us.

Some client projects require integration with Exchange. For example:

• The Wartsila project uses Microsoft Access as a front end to a bespoke SQL Server CRM database. We created synchronization controls to allow Access or Outlook to create diary entries for site visits and for both applications to see the diary entry.
  
  
• As part of our clients project Sharepoint portal certain items can be viewed from Exchange using web parts.
