It’s Right by the Caf
Okay, sure. There’s more to it than that. There’s open-gender housing here for about 200 sophomores, juniors, and seniors. There’s a mix of unique and flexible room configurations (doubles, triples, and quads). There’s the occasional bay window, cute as heck. But let’s be real. You can smell breakfast, lunch, and dinner from your bed here. Need we say more?
What's Cool About It
There is a door between the bedroom and living room areas, which is a huge plus.
Built in 1929, it’s named for J.P. Uhler, acting president of Â鶹ÊÓƵ from 1911 to 1913, between two other presidents who also have buildings named after them: Mattson and Johnson. In 1942, Uhler (the place) was overtaken by hundreds of Naval officers-in-training as part of a U.S. effort to fast-track them into World War II. Gustie women could accompany these Navy men to dances, but due to a student-wide ban on dancing, they couldn’t dance with them. Times have changed. Today, Uhler’s courtyard is perfect for cookouts, flag football, and dance parties that include all gender expressions.
