Coziest Place on Campus

The main facility of our 125-acre arboretum features high ceilings, exposed beams, stained glass, and a woodburning fireplace notably tiled yellow that warms a body even on the coldest days. Maps and interpretive elements of the flora and fauna of the Minnesota River Valley are throughout. Visitors of all ages benefit from programming in Melva Lind. It’s also available for rent.

What’s Cool About It

Melva Lind was a professor of French, dean of students, and college administrator for three decades beginning in the 1950s. She started the Â鶹ÊÓƵ study away program as well as the Guild of St. Lucia to celebrate women. And she helped students lift the ban on dancing in 1954. Plus she was a support to the Â鶹ÊÓƵ Arboretum from its inception, the building was dedicated in her name in 1993. A more contemporary concern: this is where you find the bathrooms.
