Gibbs Hall

Alone, Together

There鈥檚 room here for 48 residents in (mostly) single dorm rooms. Each has a desk, desk chair, bed (mattress & frame), and closet/wardrobe space for each resident. Gibbs rooms have tile floors and genders alternate by floor. With North and Sorensen, it makes up the supergroup of residence halls students call Complex or 鈥橮lex.

What鈥檚 Cool About It

Sometimes known as Link because it鈥檚 literally the link between North and Sorensen, Gibbs is the best of both worlds: it鈥檚 almost exclusively singles, and it鈥檚 smack in the middle of two of our largest residence halls. At Gibbs, you can have your cake at a super fun celebration with your friends and fellow Gusties, and eat it too, alone in your room, in peace. Win-win.

The building is named in memory of Karen Gibbs, who died of cancer before her senior year in college in 1977. Karen was a tennis player and "Complex" used to overlook the tennis courts. Karen played with an attitude of no excuses. She said, 鈥淓very time I make an excuse, I am taking away from my opponent鈥檚 accomplishments. I am telling them that they are not as good as I am, and I would have won except for (fill in your excuse).鈥 Even playing opposite-handed (because of the amputation of part of her dominant hand), and undergoing chemotherapy, Karen Gibbs refused to use excuses when the result did not go her way.

Who will you find here聽

Primarily sophomores & juniors who want their own room while also being close to others living in 鈥淐omplex鈥 (North, Gibbs, and Sorensen).
